Southampton BioBlitz is a free event bringing together the local community and nature experts to explore local wildlife.

Southampton BioBlitz is an event for everyone – families, students, staff, and local nature experts come together to explore the animal and plant life on the Highfield campus and adjacent area of the Common.

The first ever Southampton BioBlitz was held in June 2014, with over a hundred people taking part. In 2015 the event returns bigger and better. As well as guided walks searching for bats, birds, butterflies and much more, there will also be face-painting, photography and activities for all the family to enjoy.

This event is brought to you in partnership by Southampton City Council, University of Southampton, University of Southampton Students’ Union (SUSU) and Southampton Natural History Society.

Join us for BioBlitz Southampton on Southampton Common and Southampton University Garden. SO17 1BJ
A “BioBlitz” is a great outdoor, community event where expert naturalists and members of the public work together to do a fast survey of all forms of life in a natural space. It’s a race to find as many different species of plants, birds, insects, fungi, mammals, and everything else as possible.
Southampton BioBlitz is a  FREE family event  to celebrate and record Southampton’s wildlife. Explore some of Southampton’s varied wildlife habitats with experts and other enthusiasts
The event starts with a Bat Walk on Friday 5 June at 9pm and an interactive event on Saturday between 10am – 4pm, with wildlife walks and talks,  the Hi Tech Wild Trek trailer, moth trapping, bug hunts, face painting and lots of other hands on family activities.
If you want to learn more about your local wildlife and take part in a spot of “Citizen Science” join us at the Southampton BioBlitz!  outside the Students’ Union Building, University of Southampton, Highfield Campus, Southampton SO17 1BJ.
