General Election – 4 July 2024 – some deadlines coming up for voter registration, applying for postal or proxy votes and voter ID

There are some deadlines coming up for those who have not yet registered to vote, or wish to apply for a postal or proxy vote, or need to apply for voter ID, or wish to know more about this.

The information below is courtesy of SCC’s City News, 31/05/24:

On Thursday 4 July, the nation will go to the polls to vote for who will represent them in Parliament.
You must be registered to vote by Tuesday 18 June to take part. Register here:

There are a number of ways you can have your say – you can vote at a polling station, by post or by appointing someone you trust to vote on your behalf, which is known as a proxy vote.

The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday 19 June, while the deadline to apply for a proxy vote and or to apply for a free voter ID is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June.

Following the introduction of new rules last year, you will need to show photo ID when voting at a polling station. Another important change is that British and eligible Irish citizens living overseas can now register to vote in the UK at General Elections.

The Voter ID page lists which photo IDs are accepted, and if you don’t have one, how you can apply for a free voter ID, postal or proxy vote. See Voter ID page here:
