This year we have the following events taking place across Southampton…

West End: Thursday 20th June | 10am – 3.15pm at St James, West End

Shirley: Thursday 27th June | 2 – 4.30pm at St James’ by the Park Church, Shirley

St Denys: Tuesday 2nd July | 2 – 4pm at St Denys Memory Café, St Denys Church, Dundee Rd

Highfield: Tuesday 16th July | 10am – 3pm at Highfield Church, Highfield Lane

Monday 10 June
Singing By Heart: Hedge End Salvation Army, White’s Way SO30 2GL, from 11.00-12.00 with sandwiches and cake or biscuit and drink after. Singing by Heart is an hour session singing a mixture of Christian songs and well-known secular songs that people with dementia will know and be able to interact with. It includes a Bible verse before each song and a online prayer after each song and ends each session with The Lord’s Prayer. It isn’t a memory café but any after activity such as light refreshments will afford the opportunity to engage fully with our volunteers.  For more information contact Lynne.Sillence@salvationarmy.org.uk on 07974 372207

Music for the Mind – Songwriting:  Planet Sounds (opposite the Co-op), 40 Terminus Terrace, SO14 3FE, from 1.30-3pm. SoCo Music Project presents a free fun and social Music-Making Session for all abilities.  Places are limited for more details, please email mark@socomusicproject.org.uk.

Mayfield Nursery – Walking Group:  Mayfield Nursery, Weston Lane, Weston SO19 9HL, from 10am at Mayfield Nurseries Entrance. Feel the benefit of the outdoors and connecting with nature in a supportive environment.

Tuesday 11 June
Music for the Mind – Vocal & Instrumental:  Planet Sounds (opposite the Co-op), 40 Terminus Terrace, SO14 3FE, from 1.30-3pm. Music Leaders are Katy Hooper and Hayley McDonnell explore mindfulness, meditation techniques through singing inspired by sounds and rhythms from around the world.  SoCo Music Project presents a free fun and social Music-Making Session for all abilities.  Places are limited for more details, please email mark@socomusicproject.org.uk.

KES @ Avenue St Andrews:  Avenue St Andrews Church, The Avenue, SO171XQ, from 2.30-3.45pm. Multi-generational club providing activities and Friendship, brought to you by Communicare working in partnership with King Edwards VI School and Avenue St Andrews Church

Wednesday 12 June
To celebrate Carers week, UCSS is holding a Carers Choir performance at MAST Mayflower studios on Wednesday 12th June at 12pm.

The performance will be around 15-20 minutes and include a medley of songs. If you are a member of the Choir feel free to invite your family and friends along to see you singing! On the day, we will also have the Roving Health Team on hand in the MAST café to carry out BMI and Blood Pressure checks. If you are only coming for a health check, you can drop in anytime between 11:30am -1:30pm.

The capacity for the performance is 30 people, so make sure you book your ticket to avoid disappointment!

Wednesdays @ Holy Saviour Bitterne:  Holy Saviour Church, Bursledon Road, SO19 7LW.

  • Omega Café:  Drop in anytime from 10 until 12. Free tea, coffee, cake, and chat.
  • Armchair exercise:  Starts at 10am for about 25 minutes. Led by a qualified instructor; light exercise whilst still sitting! Donations welcome.
  • Omega Lunch: At Midday. Normally soup & roll but on the 2nd Wednesday of the month something a bit more like a soup, ploughman’s or jacket potato. Donations welcome.

Woolston Friendship Club:  St Patrick’s Church Hall, Porchester Road, SO19 9BD, from 10.15 – 11.30am often joined by children from St Patrick’s Primary School.
MHA Warm Welcome @ Hebron Court:  Hebron Court, 46 Rollesbrook Gardens, Southampton SO15 5WB, from 12-2pm. A warm welcome, with lunch and games included and free to attend.

Health Walks in Southampton, Riverside Park Walk:  Meeting at 12 noon by the noticeboard at Bitterne Park Triangle. Join “Sustrans Health Walk Volunteers” for a gentle, lunchtime walk-and-talk of up to a mile in Riverside Park.  This is a walk for adults pursuing good physical and mental health through walking together.  New people should arrive 10 minutes before the start to meet the Leader and register.

Meeting Place @ October Books:  October Books, Portswood High Street, SO17 2NF, between 2.30pm to 4.30pm.  This is an intergenerational community drop in event, with painting, puzzles, board games and cream tea!

Thursday 13 June
Lordshill Memory Café:     Lordshill Church, Lordshill District Centre SO16 8HY, from 1.30-3pm.  Join us this week for a trip down memory lane exploring “Celebrations” with Pat leading discussions, followed by the usual cake and friendly chat

Thursday Cuppa:  St Mary’s Church, Sholing, SO19 8ES, from 10-11.30am.

 

CommuniTea Coffee Morning:  Weston Adventure Playground, Kingsclere Avenue, SO19 9QE, from 10am – 12pm for a multi-generational group with activities for children and drinks and chat for adults

Friday 14 June
Southampton City Council and their partners invite you to a special event as part of Carers Week! 

The event focuses on how carers can have a break and access support.Hear from speakers – including fellow carers, Councillor Marie Finn the Cabinet Member for Adults & Health.

Whats to expect:

  • Take part in engaging discussions on the issues that matter to you.
  • Browse information stalls and find out what support is available to you.
  • Enjoy a tasty buffet lunch.
  • Engage in some arts and crafts and wellbeing activities.

This event will take place from 10am – 2pm, at MAST Mayflower Studios, 142-144 Above Bar Street, Southampton, SO14 7DU.

Coffee and Cake:  St Denys Church, Dundee Road, St Denys, SO17 2ND, from 1.30-3pm.

Eastleigh Support and Social Drop In:  The Atrium, The Point, Leigh Road Eastleigh, SO50 9DE, from 12.30 – 3.30pm. This social drop in meet is for anyone that has been diagnosed with dementia or are worried about memory loss. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served while activities might include arts & crafts, reminiscence, cognitive stimulation games, quizzes, and conversation. Some weeks there are discussions led by guest speakers on topics about health / social care, finance / benefits, wellbeing & coping strategies.

The Haven Lunch Club:  St Mark’s Church, Archers Road, SO15 2LU, from 11am – 2.30pm.

MHA Singing for Wellbeing @ Hebron Court:  Hebron Court, 46 Rollesbrook Gardens, Southampton SO15 5WB, from 11am – 12.

Fish and Chip Friday @ Mayflower Court:  62-70 Westwood Road, Southampton, SO17 1DP.  Join us for Homemade Fish and Chips lunchtime for elderly members of the community who would otherwise be eating on their own from 12pm. Spaces are limited so booking is essential, please book by Wednesday lunchtime.  To reserve your place or for more information please call Mayflower Court on 02380 670200.

Saturday 15 / Sunday 16 June
REMINISCENCE IN THE PARK | Royal Victoria Country Park on Sunday 16 June 2024 10:30am to 4pm.

This Reminiscence in the Park event includes exhibitions and free talks in the Royal Victoria Chapel, sponsored walks on behalf of the Burseldon, Hound & Hound Dementia Action Group and a 1940s style tea dance.

Marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in style! More details can be found here!

Southampton Park Walk:  Meet @ the Hawthorns Café, SO15 7NN.  Meeting at the café on Southampton Common at 9am.  The meet point is by the start of park run between 2 oak trees close to hawthorns but not outside it, look for the steward in high vis jackets labelled “Park Walker”.

  • All Welcome! For a gentle 5km walk around the Common, many go to Hawthorns Café for a coffee and chat after.
